You can have a puppy, but you can't pet it.

What Do I Do When My Cat Has Kittens?

31 Dec 2007, 11:38 pm
Cats are the most popular and lovable pets any one could own. They need a lot of care and attention, especially when they have kittens. The mother Cat definitely knows how to nourish their kittens, but mother also needs to be nourished while nursing their kitten. Breeding Cat is not a child’s play, you need to devote much of your time and money if you want a healthy Cat and his Kittens.

The first and foremost duty is to provide a quiet and spacious shelter to your cat and kittens. Mother Cat needs privacy while nursing their kids, they feel uncomfortable and can even be ferocious if its dwelling place is crowded by the intruders. Many of the cat owners couldn’t provide sufficient space to their Cat, hence they should send their Cat elsewhere for few months until kittens are grown enough to be properly taken care of.

Some Cats lack the feeling of motherhood which may apparently lead to death of kittens if not taken proper by the owners. Even after giving birth to healthy kids, the mother cat won’t be interested in them and will not breast feed then or even look after them. At this situation you need to be fully prepared to feed the kittens, clean them regularly, change their sheets and even keep them safe from predators.

Proper vaccines should be given to both mother cat and the kittens to keep them away from any kind of diseases. Veterinary doctors should be consulted weekly for at least 2 months after the birth of kittens.

For the initial 3 days after the birth of kittens, dwelling place should not be touched. But then, a regular cleaning is required which includes daily brushing with weekly bath, changing their sheets with vaccinated one with a proper nutritious diet for both mother cat and kittens.
